The blue tarp of Sarlat...
I put the ugly blue tarp up in January to stop rain from leaking into the stonework while we wait for permission to renew it...

Odds & ends...

We’ve added a photo mélange of recent pictures to catch you up.

The biggest news is that our plumbing man has finally begun work on the heating system. We are replacing underground pipes that connect both houses to the furnace in a small outbuilding – at great cost, for the insulated pipe may as well be gold plated.

We were delighted to have a weeklong visit from Francesco’s next youngest brother, Filippo, and his wife Claudia. One highlight was a trip to view Jacqueline van der Schueren’s garden at the chateau de Losse where she personally guided us through the castle and grounds.

Francesco & I also made a trip to see the scarecrow fete at the little village of Meyral, where imagination reigns every year. There are entries constructed from every possible material, by folks of all ages.

Our judicious tree cutting and culling work continues with the aim of improving the view and clearing years of scrub growth and brambles. We now can gaze down into the pretty valley of the winding stream, Le Manoire, that flows through Fossemagne.

And we are still inundated with figs and other fruit, trying to think of every way possible to use them up. So far we’ve had fresh figs with ham, figs in salads, Italian risotto, curry, tarts, puddings, breads, and cakes. We’ve given them away, dried some, canned some, and made liqueur. And, alas, the tree is still producing faster than we can eat them!
