The blue tarp of Sarlat...
I put the ugly blue tarp up in January to stop rain from leaking into the stonework while we wait for permission to renew it...

Happy New Year from Lisbon...

Happy new year to everyone - although much around the world seems fairly dismal at the moment. Hopefully peace, calm, and prosperity will finally take root, bringing joy and happiness to you and many around the globe.

Francesco & I are in Lisbon, catching the Portuguese holiday celebrations, and then staying on for a bit to see the country. We decided to head south to get more sunshine and milder temperatures. It took two days to drive through southwestern France, across Spain, and to slice through the middle of Portugal. Neither of us have been here before and Lisbon is an interesting looking place.

It is a hilly city, stretching along the Tagus river, with charming neighborhoods composed mostly of antique buildings set on cobblestone streets. At least that is what we’ve seen so far.

We've rented a nice apartment for our stay, tucked under the walls of a medieval citadel high above the city, with a great view of the river front and skyline. We have no real plans except to see what we can here, and  probably to head north along the Atlantic coast on our way home. Then we will again turn our attention to our property in Dordogne.

As I get older, getting through each day, week, month seems the priority, and I can't imagine that a whole year has elapsed since the last time we ushered in a new year. My goodness, how time does fly!

May god grant all of you a peaceful, happy, healthy, and prosperous 2013.
